As a cherished member of our family, Kenny leaves behind a void that can never be filled.  Today, we pay tribute to Louis Cameron Gossett Jr., an esteemed Academy Award-winning actor whose illustrious career spanned over seven decades. Was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City. Gossett's extraordinary journey began at the age of 17 when he made his stage debut, and soon after, he successfully auditioned for the Broadway play Take a Giant Step. Throughout his career, he continued to captivate audiences with his work in critically acclaimed plays, films, television, and even video games. Gossett passed away he was 87. (May 27, 1936 – March 29, 2024) 

In 1977, Gossett's unforgettable performance in the miniseries Roots earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor. His groundbreaking portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) not only won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor but also made him the first Black actor to win in that category.

Gossett's remarkable talent garnered numerous nominations and awards, including Golden Globe Awards, Black Reel Awards, and NAACP Image Awards. His unforgettable performances in various film and television projects, such as The Landlord, Skin Game, Travels with My Aunt, The Laughing Policeman, The White Dawn, The Deep, Enemy Mine, The Principal, The Punisher, and Toy Soldiers, continue to resonate with audiences today.

As a member of The Moody Blues, Laine sang lead on their breakthrough hit "Go Now," and later played an instrumental role in the success of Wings, co-writing songs with McCartney and performing on classics such as "Mull of Kintyre."

Holly was a trailblazing actress best known for her groundbreaking role as Carla Gray on the daytime television series One Life to Live, making her the first Black performer to have a starring role on U.S. daytime television.

After starting her career on Broadway, Holly struggled to find roles due to the narrow view of Black performers in the entertainment industry at the time. Her big break came when One Life to Live creator Agnes Nixon read Holly's letter to The New York Times and was inspired to create the character of Carla Gray, which Holly portrayed from 1968 to 1980 and again from 1983 to 1985.

During her life, Holly lived in New York City and had an impactful career that included roles in other television shows like Guiding Light, films such as Spike Lee's School Daze, and even a TV movie titled 10,000 Black Men Named George.

Ellen Holly did not receive any major awards or have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, it's worth noting that her groundbreaking role as the first Black performer to star on U.S. daytime television in a leading role is an incredible achievement in itself, and a significant contribution to the entertainment industry.
