Orenthal James Simpson (July 9, 1947 - April 10, 2024), was a true football legend and one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Simpson's career was marked by tremendous accomplishments both on and off the field.

Simpson's football journey began at the University of Southern California, where he played as a running back for the USC Trojans. His exceptional performance led him to win the prestigious Heisman Trophy in his senior year, recognizing him as the most outstanding player in college football. In 1969, he was selected first overall by the Buffalo Bills in the NFL/AFL draft, kickstarting an illustrious professional career.

Throughout his 11 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Buffalo

Bills, Simpson received numerous accolades, including five consecutive Pro Bowl selections and five first-team All-Pro honors. He led the league in rushing yards four times and in rushing touchdowns twice. In 1973, he made history by becoming the first NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season, earning him the NFL Most Valuable Player award - a feat achieved in a 14-game regular season, which remains a record to this day.

After retiring from football in 1979 with the San Francisco 49ers, Simpson pursued a career in acting and broadcasting, demonstrating his versatility and charisma. He appeared in numerous movies and TV shows and also became a household name through his iconic Hertz rental car commercials.

Despite his remarkable achievements, Simpson's life took a tragic

turn following the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The controversial trial and subsequent acquittal changed the public's perception of Simpson forever. In 2008, he was convicted on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, leading to a 33-year prison sentence. Released on parole in 2017, Simpson's life story serves as a cautionary tale of a fallen star.
